Description

The Volkswagen Type 166 was developed for the Wehrmacht on the basis of the KdF car and the Type 82.
The result is the most built Schwimmwagen and with its capabilities on land and on water the most successful Schwimmwagen of all times, which was even recognized by the enemies of the war at that time. In today's off-road competitions, VW Schwimmwagen have repeatedly outclassed even modern competitors due to their low weight.
Between autumn 1942 and summer 1944, over 14,000 units were produced at the Volkswagen factory near Fallersleben.

Ausbaufähig

Im Großen und Ganzen ein gutes Modell. Es lässt sich gut an Land und im Wasser bewegen. Bei der Ansteuerung der Lenkung besteht ein grober Konstruktionsfehler. Die Gelenkkugel müßte um 90 Grad nach unten versetzt sein. Dadurch gibt es einen großen Unterschied in den Lenkeinschlägen. Den Lenkservo halte ich für zu schwach.
Lieber konstruktive Kritik als Lobhudelei.

Very good model let down slightly by the instructions and decals

The model itself looks and works great. You get 3 decal sheet choices when it comes to detailing the model and they are waterslide so thats good.

The aux function to lower the propeller is cool and the car works well both in and out of water.

There seems to be an issue with the panzer grenadier regiment decals with them being too small for the scale. If you compare them to say the box art of the 1/35 Tamiya model it looks like these should be twice the size.

That aside the instructions have a few holes in them. There is nothing saying that the propeller only spins if the vehicle is in water possibly leading some to think it doesnt work.
There is also nothing in the instructions about connecting the cars battery although this is pretty obvious.
The last thing I noticed is that the page that shows you where to put the decals only shows one scheme and it shows it on a different schwimmwagon model to the one supplied. E.G. It has a different rear light/ number plate section. I did find that if you download the PDF version of the manual it is a newer version with placement locations for all 3 schemes although its too late for me as I have already applied my decals.

On the whole its a great model and will look even better with the crew once they are painted but the instructions and decals need a slight tweak.

Ein tolles Teil

Ein sehr schönes und tolles Teil.
Kurze Lieferzeit. Anfänglich ein kleines Problem mit der Gelenkwelle am Vorderrad. Dank Kundenservice konnte ich den Fehler schnell und einfach selbst beheben. Mal sehen, wie die erste Fahrt im Wasser läuft.
Ich werde berichten.
