Description
The USS Arizona was a warship of the Pennsylvania class, which was built in the mid 1910's by and for the US Navy. Named to honor the 48. state's entry into the union, the ship was the second and last of the Pennsylvania category of the 'super-dreadnought' warships.
During the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor on 7. December 1941, the Arizona was bombed. She exploded, sank, and killed 1.177 of its officials and crew. As opposed to many other ships that were sunk or damaged that day, the Arizona could not be retrieved completely, despite the Navy getting parts of the ship to be reused. The wrack still lies on the ground of Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial, that was dedicated to all victims on 30. May 1962.
