Which Tiger I RC Tank is Right for You?

With over 30 variants, the Tiger I is the most versatile RC tank in the Torro range — from affordable beginner models starting at €229 to the 1:6 full metal collector's piece. All 1:16 models are Ready-to-Run: unbox, charge, drive.

Tiger I for Beginners

The Torro Hobby-Edition (from €299) and HengLong Torro-Edition (from €229) come with airbrush paintwork, sound, and light effects out of the box. Choose between BB (airsoft — fires 6mm plastic pellets up to 25m), IR (infrared — registers hits via light beam and simulates damage), or the BB+IR combo system on HengLong models. Some models already include metal tracks.

BB or IR — Which Combat System?

BB (Airsoft) fires real 6mm plastic pellets up to 25 metres — ideal if you want to see the shot and hit physically. IR (Infrared) uses an invisible light beam — opposing tanks register hits and simulate track failure, engine damage, and knockout. For battles with friends, IR is the better choice. The HengLong Torro-Edition even combines BB+IR in one model.

Tiger I for Experienced Modellers

Premium models (from €679) offer up to 90% metal content, 360° turret rotation, servo barrel recoil, and cannon smoke on firing. Available as early, middle, and late variants — in grey, summer camo, desert camo, or unpainted for custom finishing.

Tiger I Full Metal for Collectors

The full metal models (from €2,999) are 99% metal — hull, turret, tracks, everything. In 1:16 with BB and barrel recoil, as 1:8 (from €7,990) and as 1:6 XXL version (from €11,990) — the largest model in the entire shop. Prefer to build? The Tiger I is also available as an RC-capable 1:16 build kit (from €479).

Frequently Asked Questions about the Tiger I

What is the difference between BB and IR on the Tiger I?

BB (Airsoft): The tank fires 6mm plastic pellets with up to 25 metres range — you see the shot and hit physically. IR (Infrared): The tank emits an invisible infrared beam. Opposing tanks register hits and simulate damage (track failure, engine damage, knockout). For multi-tank battles, IR is ideal. The HengLong Torro-Edition even combines BB+IR in one model.

Do I need experience to operate a Tiger I RC tank?

No. All Tiger I models (except the build kit) are Ready-to-Run: remote control, battery, and charger included. Unbox, charge (approx. 2–3 hours), drive. You can always upgrade to metal parts later — for compatibility questions, contact our service: service@torro.de

What do early, middle, and late version mean?

The three variants correspond to the historical production phases of the original Tiger I (1942–1944). The RC models are technically identical — differences are in external details like track covers, exhaust shape, and turret form. The early version is the most common in our range.

How long does one battery charge last?

Between 20 and 45 minutes depending on model and driving style. Smoke and firing functions use slightly more power. A second battery doubles the play time. Tip: Use our battery calculator for an exact estimate.

Can I upgrade to metal tracks or a metal turret later?

For many Torro models, yes. For the Tiger I there are extensive metal upgrade parts: metal tracks, metal road wheels, metal turret, 360° turret rings, and more. Please note: not all editions are compatible with all upgrades — HengLong models in particular may require different parts than Torro models. For specific compatibility questions, contact our service: service@torro.de

What makes the full metal models special?

99% metal construction — hull, turret, tracks, road wheels. Significantly heavier and feel like a true collector's item. In 1:16 with BB and barrel recoil, as 1:8 large format, and as 1:6 — the largest RC tank in the entire Torro range.

Is the Tiger I RC tank suitable for children?

Generally yes — recommended for ages 14 and up. Younger children should only operate the tank under adult supervision, especially models with BB firing function (6mm plastic pellets). IR models are safer as they only "fire" an invisible light beam. Always follow the safety instructions in the manual.

Can I drive the Tiger I RC tank outdoors?

Yes — RC tanks are great fun outdoors. Best on firm, flat surfaces like tarmac, paving, or dry grass. Models with metal tracks offer significantly better traction than plastic tracks. Avoid sand, water, and deep puddles as they can damage electronics and gearbox. Give the tank a quick clean after outdoor use to extend its lifespan.

How much does a Tiger I RC tank cost?

The most affordable Tiger I starts at €229 (HengLong Torro-Edition with BB+IR). The Torro Hobby-Edition starts at €299, with metal tracks from €349. Premium models with smoke function start at €679. Full metal models in 1:16 start at €2,999, the 1:8 version from €7,990 and the 1:6 from €11,990. Build kits start at €479.

What colours and camouflage schemes are available for the Tiger I?

The Tiger I is available in several historical paint schemes: grey (Wehrmacht grey), summer camouflage (green-brown), desert camouflage (sand), and camouflage pattern. All variants with airbrush paintwork. If you want to customise your tank, the Tiger I is also available unpainted for custom finishing.
