Description

The Tirpitz was the second of two battleships of the Bismarck class, that were built for the German navy during the second world war. Named after Great Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz, the architect of the imperial navy. Just like its sister-ship Bismarck, it was equipped with a main battery of eight 38 cm-guns in two twin towers. After a series of modifications during the war, it was 2.000 tons heavier than the Bismarck.

The ship served as the core of the Baltic Sea Fleet to prevent a possible outbreak of the Sowjet Baltic Sea Fleet. At the beginning of 1942, the ship traveled to Norway to deter an allied invasion. During its stationing in Norway, the Tirpitz was supposed to catch allied convoys; two of these missions were attempted in 1942.

In September 1943, the Tirpitz bombed Allied Forces in Spitsbergen. Shortly after, the ship was damaged in a British submarine attack. On 12. November 1944, British Lancaster Bomber destroyed the ship.

Forces of Valor ® Tirpitz is made out of metal and plastic, whereas the lower part of the hull is made out of metal and the upper part is made out of plastic. The tower and guns are made out of plastic and offer a high quality of detail. The rotating towers are equipped with cannons. The add-ons are movable cranes, hand-painted safety boats, antennas and mast.
